Webcams and Drivers

Thursday, October 5th, 2006

I was given a crappy little webcam at work when I first started, as noone had the drivers and it was quite the joke.

Anyway, The moral of this story is don’t give a geek a toy just because drivers don’t exist anymore >:)

For the story on how I found the drivers (it is interesting .. well to a geek anyway, Read on)

Unattended Windows XP/2003 Installations Over the Network

Friday, March 24th, 2006

I recently had the opportunity to try setting this up.

The quick list is
PXElinux
Bart’s Network Bootdisk (for deployment from the pxelinux server)
setupmgr from the deploy.cab on the XP/2003 CD
Linux Server to run it all from.

I’ll write more about it later on, but it is very interesting, and a huge time saver for techs like me who have to do XP / 2K3 installs all the time.

Also I haven’t tried it yet, but I am looking at using a combination of VMware and PXELinux to make my laptop able to be a portable “drop and install” server.

I’ll put up more news on that when I get a few minutes to myself.

XFire

Thursday, July 28th, 2005

I Installed Xfire a few nights back, It’s interesting, except it scans your running processes constantly.
Which does raise the paranoia levels.

But it does have it’s benefits, i can see when friends are playing WoW now, it also has a file download system, similar to torrents, good for downloading Star Wars and WoW movies.

I’ve been downloading some Star Wars and WoW movies, I will be watching some tonight between coding, so expect to see some links coming up in here :P .
