Microsoft and Gaining Control over IT

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

I was noticing that most of the updates in my latest automatic update contain the phrase “”, and I was curious as to how many updates are to fix a problem that “could allow an attacker to comprimise your machine and gain control over it”

Googling didn’t quite give the response I wanted, but I think you get the picture.

OpenVPN and lack of updates

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

Sorry about the lack of updates, work has been hectic.

I have been looking for some “easy to setup” VPN systems for a while, especially since Hamachi is going from benevolent private to private-enterprise private. and I stumbled upon OpenVPN.

I’ve been floored at how easy it was to setup a windows workstation connecting to a linux server, routes and all, much easier than ipsec/*swan.

I’ll write up a guide on my wiki, as the “simple shared key setup” isn’t quite as copy/paste friendly as I’d like, I like to skip the whole RTFM section and get right into it, and I assume there are others like me.
