HP Bluetooth GPS

I bought one of these last Thursday, i’ve had a bit of a play around with it, using it with VisualGPSce and all in all it is a pretty nice unit.
I would like to add some caveats, they DO NOT work indoors, and sometimes getting a lock can take minutes ( one time on a sunday afternoon it took 5 minutes, but this was standing still )
I’ve got the software on order for the device, so when that arrives i’ll post some more information and action shots 
I bought Destinator 3 OEM with the Device from Harvey Norman Upper Mt. Gravatt.
I can buy these units wholesale, but Harvey Norman have serious buying power (i’d buy one, and they’d buy 1000 … who do you think gets it cheaper 
)
Otherwise you can let your mouse do the walking and read up on them.
Anyway, I need sleep.

I guess there won’t be anymore GTA Games, unless the old addage “bad news is good publicity” works, although there seem to be many people that are suing them because they bought it for their children.

VoIP
Thursday, July 28th, 2005I’m tempted to turn this into a fully fledged article on the viability of voip in the present day, but I digress.
At work we use a VoIP phone system, personally I LOVE the idea of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol, for those not “in the know”) having my Pocket PC and laptop when i’m out and about to answer calls or phone the office, seriously sends little convergence shivers down my spine, phones and computers merged into one big organism.
Basically, I love the idea. The problem these days is the implementation.
VoIP has some neccesities to operate properly :
– Bandwidth
– Latency (or lack of)
It needs this at both ends, now onto the problem at hand, at work we have had gremlins in the system since its inception, from g.729 licensing to packet loss.
To explain this better, I would have to guide you through my whole network, that would take a while.
Interesting enough, the company we get our VoIP lines from called us up today and their phone call was garbled. I almost fell over laughing.
Anyway, I guess these are not written for posterity but a sense of community, so if you want more information, leave a comment. (I have to get back to work)

Thursday, July 28th, 2005I Installed Xfire a few nights back, It’s interesting, except it scans your running processes constantly.
Which does raise the paranoia levels.
But it does have it’s benefits, i can see when friends are playing WoW now, it also has a file download system, similar to torrents, good for downloading Star Wars and WoW movies.
I’ve been downloading some Star Wars and WoW movies, I will be watching some tonight between coding, so expect to see some links coming up in here
